The professionals in on-line marketing are focusing their strategy on “long tail keywords”. Probably the majority of you have heard about this term. For the ones who didn’t know, the business long tail strategy refers to finding well defined niche for your business and not offering everything to everyone. The long tail keywords are based on a similar concept.
These long tail keywords, are the phrases formed by 3-4 words and usually we are talking about something specific to the selling product or to the main topic of the site. Most of the times, a customer will seek for something more specific because they know exactly what they are searching for and what they want to buy. Almost always, a long tail keyword is turning much more into a sale comparing with a normal search. At the same time we are talking about a larger traffic towards a site.
Let’s speak in more specific terms and take an example. If you search for the word “beauty” you will find about 600 million sites. To get a high rank using this word, will be very difficult, because there are so many sites covering this subject. Meanwhile, let’s search for “beauty tips for women” and we will find 15 million sites. Still, there are only 5 site optimized on this keyword. If you make a good optimization on your site after this keyword, you have the guarantee of page 1 in Google.
While you make this optimization based on the long tail keywords, little by little an increasingly number of pages will be indexed by Google and will indirectly grow the rank of other key words you will anyhow use in your pages, even if the focus is on the long tail keywords. In our example we will include terms like “beautiful skin”, “beautiful hair”, “healthy diet” and so on.
